Mitral Valve Clip

Mitral valve clip is a non-surgical procedure performed for the management of mitral valve regurgitation (leakage). The mitral valve is situated between the two left chambers (left atrium and left ventricle) of the heart. In mitral valve regurgitation, there is improper closure of the mitral valve allowing the backward flow of blood into the heart. Conventional treatment of mitral regurgitation involves open heart surgery with repair or replacement of the mitral valve. However mitral valve clip offers a non-surgical alternative. Through a single needle stick in the groin a catheter is used to clip to the ends of the mitral valve together. This allows the valve to close more appropriately and remove the mitral regurgitation. This treatment is designed for those who are at high risk for conventional open heart surgery.

We at CCNJ have physicians who specialize in this treatment. If you are determined to have significant mitral regurgitation and are at high risk for conventional open heart surgery you may be a candidate for this non-surgical treatment.
